Slovenia debuted at Eurovision back in 1993, however they are yet to win the contest. In more recent years, the nation is hit or miss with their qualifications. Hoping to return to the final this year, Slovenia is represented by the group LPS and their track, ‘Disko’.

Song and Vocals
After some disappointing national selections this year, I was pleasantly surprised to see Slovenia offer up a select few songs with Eurovision potential. With the final line-up, I have to say that I was surprised to see that LPS had won the contest. It was among the songs I enjoyed, but didn’t see as much Eurovision potential. This is a nice song, but that’s as far as it goes.
Disko definitely has a retro style, which as we saw last year with Portugal certainly has the opportunity to succeed if done well. I like the funk that this song brings, as it’s not something we hear too often at Eurovision. The music itself is fantastic, and I really love the instrumental after the first chorus. The chorus is catchy, but as the song progresses, the repetition of the choruses begin to sound flat. I don’t think the vocals help, as they add to the lack of dimension throughout the three minutes.
Performance and Act
I would not be surprised if we see a very similar performance from LPS at Eurovision. Simple staging puts a stronger focus on the song and vocals, and with neither of those exceptionally strong, it may come across as a very static three minutes. The group grooves with the music, but there’s no further movements, relying on camera work to add the dynamics. I would be pleasantly surprised if Slovenia could manage to create a more dynamic stage show to elevate their chances of qualification.
Conclusions
Wedged between Switzerland and Ukraine, I think Slovenia finds themselves in a difficult spot. I don’t think this has enough pull for televoters, and the vocal style might not be conducive to a strong jury vote either. The music itself is enjoyable, but that won’t be enough. I don’t think we will see Slovenia in the final this year.

Song and Vocals
Disko isn’t a bad song at all, but the composition doesn’t really get the listener connected for the full three minutes. It’s a dated song and whilst that doesn’t have to be a problem, it lacks to make any impact for the current viewer of the contest. The vocals are fine, I don’t see any problem in that area.
Performance and Act
The performance and act is fitting for the song, being a bit static and thus dated. Therefore it is suitable for the Slovenian entry but it’s also my main concern when it comes to the competitive element of Eurovision. The entire presentation does not give any call to action, to vote for it. This is a problem if Slovenia wants to qualify.
Conclusions
Slovenia comes up with a decent song, making it one of the weaker entries of Eurovision 2022. It is not bad, it is completely forgettable. The presentation and song in combination do not give out any reason to make the televoter for it and for the jury it is non-offensive and thus won’t be ranked extremely high, but there is also no reason for them to place it amongst their top-5 entries.
